The COTABATO ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC. – PPALMA operates as distribution electric utility under the franchise of COTELCO by virtue of the ruling of the National Electrification Commission in NEC case no. 2000-03 which was further upheld and confirmed with modification by the Court of Appeals in C.A.G.R. No. SP -84996 dated September 15, 2008. The operation  of COTELCO-PPALMA took place after the mediation proceedings under the supervision of National Electrification Administration.

 

The passage of Board Resolution No. 57-2012 which was duly approved by the National Electrification Administration on October 29, 2012, gave life and independence for the creation of COTELCO-PPALMA as a Separate Business Unit using the Franchise of COTELCO, Managing its Operation, but with only one (1) set of Board of Directors coming from COTELCO Main and COTELCO PPALMA as the policy-making body and all powers of the cooperative emanates from them. In the process, it was able to hire its own General Manager who oversees the operation of COTELCO-PPALMA with independent technical, institutional and financial undertakings. It handles and maintains its own books of account for sole accountability.

 

Our Cooperative serves the six (6) municipalities in the 1st District of Cotabato Province namely: Pigcawayan,Pikit, Aleosan, Libungan, Midsayap and Alamada (PPALMA).  It also serve the other parts of Maguindanao Municipalities namely; Pagagawan (Datu Montawal), Pagalungan, Northern Kabuntalan, and some barangays of Buldon (Denganin, Edcor and Nuyo).

 

One of the realizations received by our beloved Electric Coop in 2015 was the recognition by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) of COTELCO-PPALMA in June 09, 2015 as one of Electric Cooperative Distribution Utility in the Philippines with assumed jurisdiction over the six (6) abovementioned municipalities with the issuance of Certificate of Registration No. 141 of the Articles of Incorporation.                

 

The day-to-day affairs of the cooperative shall be subject to the policy directives of the Board of Directors of COTELCO-PPALMA such as power contracting, ERC cases, and the like. Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) of COTELCO-PPALMA will be held every first Sunday of October as per Articles and By-Laws of the Cooperative.

 

COTELCO –PPALMA has established its own juridical personality. House Bill No. 5654 an act granting a legislative franchise to COTABATO ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC.,-PPALMA (COTELCO-PPALMA) to construct, install, establish, operate, and maintain a distribution system for the conveyance of electric power to the end users in the municipalities of Pikit, Pigcawayan, Aleosan, Libungan, Midsayap, and Alamada province of Cotabato and its neighboring suburds was approved by the House on May 5, 2017, transmitted to the Senate on May 31, 2017,and received by the Senate on May 31, 2017.
